IDC typical to BRCA1 germline mutation
carrier patients

up one level

Hereditary breast carcinomas caused by BRCA1 germline mutation share common histological features. These tumors are generally of grade 3 and contain an abundant intra- and peritumoral lymphocytic infiltrate.

These tumors are distinct from medullary carcinoma, since there is no syncytial growth pattern and they lack a tumor-surrounding fibrous capsule. BRCA1-associated carcinomas are commonly hormone receptor and HER-2/neu negative but positive for p53 IHC staining.
