LIN 3 (former LCIS)

up one level

Diagnosis of LIN3 or LCIS is justified even in the presence of one affected lobular acinus. The acini are distended and filled with homogeneous epithelial cells. Intercellular cohesion is often decreased or lost. Scanty cytoplasm, occasionally vacuolized. The nuclei are round-shaped and lack visible nucleoli. Few or no mitoses are seen in LCIS type A ("classical" LCIS). In the LCIS "type B" the cellular pleomorphism is more pronounced, and nucleoli can be seen. LCIS can occur concomitantly with common benign changes (fibroadenoma, sclerosing adenosis).
