Progesterone receptor

up one level

Progesterone receptor (PR, or PgR) assay is used together with ER to identify patients eligible for post-operative hormonal therapies. Tumors positive for both receptors respond best to anti-estrogen or aromatase inhibitor therapies. Approximately 50-70% of invasive breast tumors are PR-positive.

Scoring of the slides can be done quantitatively using the histoscore method (% of positive cells x staining intensity; 0-4), or qualitatively using three classes (-, +., and ++).
