Histological criteria: 1) syncytial growth pattern (in >75% of cells). 2) A circumscribed (pushing border) growth pattern; 3) high-grade nuclear pleomorphism; 4) Abundant intra- and peritumoral mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltrate. No glandular growth pattern. Only tumors fulfilling stringent criteria of medullary carcinoma are considered as having better prognosis than IDC.
