Case 2
Presented by: D. C. Kuhnen
Clinical History A 15-year-old boy presented with a 7cm cystic lesion in the upper left abdomen. The lesion had been detected by ultrasound on occasion following a traumatic event. Additional smaller solid tumor nodules surrounded the cystic process nearby and apparently represented tumor dissemination. Tumor resection was performed under the suspicion of a malignant tumor.
Macroscopic findings:The resetion specimen included a cystic area measuring 7x5x4 cm excised from the ligamentum gastrocolicum. Two additional tumor nodules up to approx. 3,5cm located nearby were resected apart from several smaller nodules up to 1, cm which were found within the greater omentum. The cystic area filled with partly hemorrhagic fluid, the solid nodules showed a white, firm cut surface.

Presented by: Dr. ME McMenamin
Clinical History A 16-year-old Caucasian male underwent excsion of a’’ vascular tumour’’ of his left thumb nailbed following a two year history of local swelling. Glomus tumour with microscopic positive margins was diagnosed. Eleven years later, the patient was referred to the Plastic Surgery Department of a different hospital with presumed local recurrence, reporting a painful lesion of the distal left thumb of several months duration that showed dramatic growth and ulceration over the preceding weeks. Malignant transformation was suspected clinically and the provisional plan was amputation of distal thumb the subsequent week. Biopsies were performed ( H&E provided) and showed a malignant round cell tumour in the dermis with focal intraepidermal pagetoid spread.
