Case 2
Presented by: Dr. A. Skalova

Case 3
Presented by: Dr. M.P. Foschini

Clinical History
A 72-year- old woman presented with 12 month history of a nodule in the right parotid gland slowly increasing in size. Ultrasound of the parotid region disclosed a nodule cystic in the centre with well defined margins, measuring 2,7 cm in the greatest axis. On fine needle aspiration ( FNA) cytological smear the possibility of an unusual variant of WT was suggested. Thereafter the nodule was surgically excised. Following the histological diagnosis of carcinoma a superficial parotidectomy with facial nerve sparing was performed. No residual tumour was found within the surgical specimen and therefore no further treatment was administered. Four months later the patient presented with enlarged right cervical lymph nodes which showed metastatic deposits at histology. Ten months later skin metastases appeared. The patient was then lost to follow-up soon after.

Case 4
Presented by: Dr. R . Simpson

Clinical History
Male 66, presented with a cystic mass of the left parotid gland, which fluctuated in size. It was sometimes painful, but not tender on examination. The facial nerve was intact. An MRI scan showed a 12 mm superficially located left parotid lesion. On macroscopic examination: parotid gland 80x55x25x mm, containing a cystic lesion 15x10x8mm.

Case 5
Presented by: Dr. N. Gale

Clinical History
A 48-year-old man presented with a two month history of painless nodule of the left parotid gland. No other accompanying symptoms were noted. A left superficial parotidectomy was performed. Macroscopically, the tumor was well-circumscribed , measuring 1,2cm in diameter. Cut surface was white-yellow without evidence of hemorrhagic and necrotic areas.

Case 6
Presented by: Dr. S. Di Palma

Clinical History
34-year-old man presented to head and neck team with a tender mass in the left neck which had been present for 5-6 weeks. FNA showed clusters of cells with features consistent with malignancy and excision biopsy was advised The tumour in the left parotidectomy specimen measured 37x28 cm

Case 7
Presented by: Dr. M.H. Therkildsen

Clinical History
The patient was a 33-year-old white male with a tumour in the left parotid gland. Macroscopically the specimen measured 2x3x3 cm. The colour was yellowish and the cut surface fish-flesh appearance.

Case 8
Presented by: Dr. N. Zidar

Clinical History
A 22-year-old woman has had a swelling under the left madibular angle for 6 months. At the age of one year, she was succesfully treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Left superficial parotidectomy was performed. In the resected specimen, we found a round tumor measuring 1 cm in diameter, which was whitish and firm on cut surface.

 Diagnosis & discussion

Slide 9
Case 9
Presented by: Dr. A. Franchi

Clinical History
A 56-year-old female presenting with a rapidly growing lesion of the left parotid gland, with facial nerve palsy. The patient underwent a left parotidectomy, upon gross examination the lesion measured 4,5x3,5x3cm, had ill defined margins with extra-glandular extension and showed areas of necrosis. After the histological diagnosis, the patient was further thoroughly examined but no other lesion was found in the head and neck region . Eight years later two nodules were detected in the right lung by CT scans. They were surgically removed and the histological features were similar to those seen in the parotid gland.

Case 10
Presented by: Dr. A. Sandison

Clinical History
A 20–year-old woman was referred from Greece with a thyroid mass diagnosed on FNA as papillary thyroid carcinoma. The imaging showed an exophytic tumour that was involving trachea. At operation, an ulcerated tumour was seen on the mucosal aspect of the trachea and frozen section diagnosis was requested. The macroscopic specimen included a portion of trachea measuring 3cm longx2cmx0,8cm. Tumour measured 2x1,7cm ans was 0,4 and 0,6 cm from the polar resection margins. The right lobe and isthmus of thyroid was sent separately.
