THE EUROPEAN VIRTUAL MICROSCOPY NETWORK STUDY
The web hosting of the slide seminars of the ECP 2007 congress is conducted as part of a scientific study. The aim of the study is to evaluate the usefulness of a European Virtual Microscopy Network.
Study Design: The complete slide set of the ECP 2007 seminar sessions has been mirrored on several servers around Europe. A speed
test automatically guides the user to load image data from the server with the currently best connection speed. The idea is that web users will have
consistent access to image data, and that regional differences in connection speed could be eliminated.
All participators in the study have their own administration interface, from where they can temporary set their own server offline. They also have access to full online statistics of the network at any time
Results and reporting: Network speeds will be constantly monitored and logged, and the results will be sent for publication
as a Journal article. Depending on the results, establishment of a permanent network will be proposed, as well as optional strategies for upkeep and administration of the network.
