Case 3
Presented by: Dr. M.P. Foschini
Clinical History A 72-year- old woman presented with 12 month history of a nodule in the right parotid gland slowly increasing in size. Ultrasound of the parotid region disclosed a nodule cystic in the centre with well defined margins, measuring 2,7 cm in the greatest axis. On fine needle aspiration ( FNA) cytological smear the possibility of an unusual variant of WT was suggested. Thereafter the nodule was surgically excised. Following the histological diagnosis of carcinoma a superficial parotidectomy with facial nerve sparing was performed. No residual tumour was found within the surgical specimen and therefore no further treatment was administered. Four months later the patient presented with enlarged right cervical lymph nodes which showed metastatic deposits at histology. Ten months later skin metastases appeared. The patient was then lost to follow-up soon after.
