Discussion: Immunohistochemistry: S-100 +, laminin +, CD99 +, CD34 -, HMB-45 -, MART-1 -, desmin -, SMA -, MIB-1 up to 70 %. The result of karyotype analysis favored the diagnosis of MPNST. For some months the patient had suffered from intensive pain in the left heel, which was later shown to be caused by a distinctly rounded 4 cm tumor in the foot near posterior tibial nerve. Coarse needle biopsy was taken and the diagnosis of atypical schwannoma was made due to locally positive p53 staining and increased proliferation index (MIB-1 up to 20%). The patient died after six months from the diagnosis of the pleural tumor. The connection between the pleura and foot tumor remained unclear. |
